Our Patrons

CMV Action are honoured to having the following patrons:

Kimberly Walsh

Kimberley Walsh is a Patron of CMV Action.

For Kimberley, it’s personal, especially now she has her own young son Bobby.  Kimberley's friend, Lisa, has a son who has been affected by the virus. Christian was diagnosed with Congenital Cytomegalovirus shortly after he was born.  Christian has been left with permanent disabilities.

“I have always wanted to do something for Christian and particularly the charity CMV Action, set up to support families affected by CMV and to raise awareness of the CMV virus.”

We are so pleased Kimberley has chosen to support CMV Action as an official patron.  Kimberley appeared on All Star Family Fortunes in January 2014 and we look forward to working together on raising awareness of CMV.  Congenital CMV is one of the main causes of children being born with birth defects in the UK but pregnant women are not routinely told about it, nor the simple steps they can take to protect themselves.

Singer, dancer, actress, lover of all things musical theatre and will always be 1/5 of Girls Aloud

Dr. Miriam Stoppard - M.D, D.Sc, DCL, FRCP, OBE - has been at the forefront of the revolution in health information since she began her writing and broadcasting career in the early 1970s.

CMV Action are delighted to announce that Dr Miriam Stoppard has extendad her patronage to CMV Action. She was a Patron of the UK Congenital CMV Association in 1999 and has agreed to be a Patron for CMV Action going forward.

After seven years practising medicine and specialising in dermatology she entered the pharmaceutical industry, eventually holding the posts of Research Director and Managing Director.  Later, she developed a career in television which spanned over 18 years and since that time she has become well-known to millions all over the world as a leading authority on parenting, child care, women’s health and many other crucial health issues.

To date, Miriam has published more than eighty books and sold in excess of 25 million copies worldwide on conception, pregnancy and birth, childcare and development, women’s and family health. She currently writes a daily page for the Daily Mirror.  In January 2010 Miriam received an OBE in the New Year's Honour List for her services to healthcare and charity.

Doctor, businesswoman, journalist, broadcaster and writer, Miriam Stoppard has two sons, two stepsons, two stepdaughters and eleven grandchildren.

Rufus Hound is an actor and a comedian. And a presenter. And a painter. And a decorator (quotes available).

Currently appearing in the successful Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at The Savoy.

Rufus Hound’s first experience of CMV came when he helped a fellow comedian raise money for a couple who needed a special wheelchair for their son, Theo, a CMV baby. Little did he know that he’d end up as Patron to the charity supporting congenital CMV sufferers and their families.

In 2012 he acted as auctioneer at a Charity Ball which raised £8,600 for CMV Action and his support for our charity has grown from there. Later that year, he and his wife, Beth, represented us on All Star Mr & Mrs, earning £5,000 for the charity, and he reprised his role as celebrity auctioneer at CMV Action’s inaugural Charity Ball in March 2014, when we raised over £18,600. In 2015 he was on 15 to 1 winning a staggering £11,000 and on The Cube where he won £1000.

We are incredibly grateful for his help in raising funds for CMV Action but we are also very excited that he has agreed to become our Patron – we value his passion & willingness to speak out about important issues, and feel those qualities will be invaluable as we raise awareness of the devastating virus that is CMV.
